Empath Mourning the Colonial Loop, Part II

2018

Three channel digital video

Dimensions variable

The Empath, dancer Rachel Rugh, responds to the violently traumatic impact of eminent domain on a rural community in the path of an invasive, redundant natural gas pipeline. The time-based, performative acts are both interpretative mourning gestures and a document of scarred and jeopardized loci. In its full iteration, Empath Mourning the Colonial Loop is projection mapped onto or within architectural structures of community significance, sometimes entailing live dance interaction.
